Yap, you guessed right. I watched the movie today and it was brilliant. It might have help that I have watched it at this specific phase of my existence. And why am I writing in english? Oh, wait... Why am I thinking in english...? God, I don't have time for this right now. I'm tired, I'm hungry, I'm thirsty, I got a headache and I want to go to bed (ok, I'll do it but before I'll take a quick walk into the kitchen...).
Watching the movie, it felt like it was written just for me. Wait, waiiiit, I'm not such an egocentrical egomaniac person (only within the legitimate limits). But, I mean the story is about two people who could so easily be me and him. I'm a dysfunctional free spirit and he is emotionally withdrawn. C'mon! I couldn't possible think of a better description.
Anywayz, it got me thinking (sometimes I do that, don't get used to it though). Wouldn't it be so fucking great if you could erase somebody off of your memory? Cease those annoying memories from swirrling into your head? Driving you crazy?
Things are simple.
'She was not happy. She wanted to move on. We provide this possibility. We rid you of painful memories and allow you a new and lasting peace of mind you've never imagined possible'.
Cos after all, 'people are a mess of sadness and phobias'.
Though the procedure in the movie is fictional, recent research has shown it is possible to successfully erase selective memories in lab mice. Such a procedure may lead to cures of post-traumatic stress (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eternal_Sunshine_of_the_Spotless_Mind). So, sign me up doc.
